Cook Up an Award-Winning Entry with Tips from Hawaii's PR Pros

02/16/11 With deadlines for PRSA Hawaii's Koa Anvil and IABC's Ilima awards just around the corner, PRSA Hawaii's February program will provide insider tips for organizing award-winning campaigns and entries. This month's panel will cover award how-to's from the best of show winners of both PRSA and IABC's awards in 2010 as well as an experienced judge's perspective on what to do and not to do when submitting a winning award entry. From selecting the right award category to make your entry standout, to writing an effective award summary and figuring out how to keep judges engaged, participants will get all the information needed to make any submission shine.

And an added incentive for those who attend - all participants for the February program will receive two $5-off coupons which can be used towards 2011 Koa Anvil award entries.

Panelists:

Nancy Daniels APR, is director of public relations for Hawaii-based Outrigger Enterprises Group, one of the largest and fastest-growing hospitality services companies in the Pacific Asia region. In her position, she is responsible for promoting a higher awareness and positive image of the company's multi-branded line of hotels, resorts and condominiums. An active member in the hospitality industry and the community for more than 25 years, Nancy is a long-time member of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), serving as a board member of the Hawaii chapter for the past ten years. She also serves as an officer of the Western Chapter of the Society of American Travel Writers and is the first vice chair of the Better Business Bureau of Hawaii.

 

Jaclyn Hawse, account executive at Becker Communications, Inc. has worked in public relations for more than four years. During her time at Becker Communications she has won numerous Koa Anvil Awards, including the 2010 "Best of Show" award for the "Oscar Mayer Wienermobile Campaign" for Kraft Foods in Hawaii.

 

Carlyn Tani is the director of external relations at Punahou School. Carlyn is the former editor of the school's multiple award-winning magazine the Punahou Bulletin, which was co-recipient of IABC Hawai'i's 2010 "Best of Show" award. In addition to garnering recognition for the magazine, including the 2009 'Ilima award of excellence, she has won local and national awards for her work in video.

Due to the increased cost of doing business, reservations to PRSA Hawaii programs made via credit card will be assessed a nominal processing fee.

Parking: Parking validation will not be available.

  • Alii Place - $0.75 for first two hours. After first two hours, $1.50 per half hour to be paid to booth attendant upon departure. Garage entrance on right side of Alakea St. after Mandalay restaurant.
  • Bishop Square 0 $4 every half hour to be paid to booth attendant upon departure. Garage entrance on left side of Alakea St. just before Hotel St.

Reservation and Cancellation Policy:
Advance registration will close at 3 p.m. on the day prior to the event. After that, a $5 walk-in fee will apply. Due to out-of-pocket expenses incurred, there is a $5 cancellation fee for reservations made via credit card; no refunds will be issued for cancellations received after the deadline; and no- shows will be invoiced.
