PRSA Hawaii seeks member feedback on PRSA national bylaws revisions

This year's PRSA National Assembly in November will be a particularly important one for the organization, as the first significant revision to the Public Relations Society of America's bylaws will be discussed and voted upon. Although amended throughout the years, the current bylaws have not been thoroughly revised since they were first ratified more than 60 years ago.

Over the past year, a national task force has been working to determine what changes were needed and for what purpose, and how to accomplish those changes. The task force researched current trends in association governance and engaged Tecker Consultants, experts in association governance, to further understand best practices.

Since the bylaw changes are so extensive and pervasive throughout the original document, Robert's Rules of Order, Newly Revised, calls for the substitution of an entirely new set of bylaws, known as a "revision."

The PRSA Hawaii chapter will have two delegates at this year's Assembly - Duke Gonzales, APR, and Amy Hennessey, APR, who is attending as an alternate for PRSA Hawaii Assembly Delegate Nancy Daniels, APR. They will vote on behalf of all Hawaii chapter members and PRSA national members in Hawaii.

"Because this is such an important subject for every member of the organization, the PRSA Hawaii Board of Directors is requesting input from Hawaii chapter members and PRSA national members in Hawaii to guide our delegates in their vote this November," said PRSA Hawaii President Kristen Bonilla, APR.

Members have been provided with links to review the old and proposed revised bylaws via an email sent recently. Comments and recommendations should be submitted to PRSA Hawaii President Kristen Bonilla, APR, and Assembly Delegates Duke Gonzales, APR, Amy Hennessey, APR, and Nancy Daniels, APR, by October 30.
